We are Gods experiencing themselves: Pelín Dilara Çolak YouTube documentary series
Network society theory is an approach by Castells (2004), which states that networks shape the new world order. The idea of a network society does not only explain the new world order from a postmodern perspective; it also points to the changes in the characteristic structures of the individuals who make up the Society and the ways of understanding the World. Heidi Campbell's (2012) concept of 'Storied Identities' as part of religion in a networked society has been useful in revealing how internet users draw on and combine resources from multiple platforms in their self-presentations. Cheong, Halavais, and Kyounghee's work on Christian bloggers (2008) explores individuals as producers of religious narratives. As these studies show, such presentations of religious identity in online environments can be seen as personalized religion in which bloggers select and reflect on religious sources from the perspective of their spiritual journeys. In this study, the video series in which Pelin Dilara Çolak, a content producer who tries to make the practice called philosophy visible to more people with a digital project, traces the different religious philosophies around the world in her nomadic lifestyle, where she travels alone from west to east, will be analyzed within the framework of qualitative research methodology with semiotic methodology. As a research question; ‘How do these documentaries filmed on YouTube affect one's understanding of religion or culture in terms of narrativized identities?’ is going to be searched.
