Sacred Erasure: How Pop Culture Algorithms Are Killing Traditional Religious Cults

This paper exposes the systematic digital elimination of traditional religious cults through algorithmic bias favoring commercial pop-culture narratives. Using a provocative case study of February 14th in Poland, we demonstrate how St. Valentine's commercialized "cult" has digitally annihilated the veneration of St. Cyril and Methodius—Europe's patron saints—despite their substantial material religious infrastructure. Our mixed-method analysis combines archaeological documentation of traditional religious heritage (22 parishes, historic relics, centuries-old artistic traditions) with quantitative Twitter/X platform analysis revealing digital apartheid: over 30,000 Valentine's Day posts versus merely 7 mentions of Cyril and Methodius on their shared liturgical date.
